They fit in the tight space around the vertical posts of rollbars which often hit the stock latches. They are more compact/lighter than the bulky/heavy stock side latches. They simply unsnap, unlike the less convenient and ugly alternative most people have been using: bolted-on Spec Miata brackets. They're pretty polished stainless steel vs. the crude-looking brackets.
