Spec Miata Center Window Net Mounting Tubes
Laser cut and coped 1" tubes for securely mounting your center net.
Mounting your center net in the Miata can prove to be a little bit challenging and costly, so we have designed 2 options for mounting your center net. We now offer 2 different versions of a laser cut and coped 1" tube that welds to the stock (not the roll cage) steel dash bar. By installing one of these tubes to the stock dash bar it allows for the entire dash to still be removed and is plenty strong enough for the forces a center net could see.
A lot of cars we see have the center nets mounted way too low in the car. The intent of the center net is to keep the drivers head from moving to far towards the center of the car. You should default to the center net installation instructions for your specific center net but we like to see the center line of the net equal to the center line of the drivers helmet. Most install their nets lower than this due to the simplicity of running the net through one of the open gauge holes.
We offer 2 different tubes to fit your specific need.
Option 1 - Is a vertical tube which installs by drilling a 1" hole in the dash and sliding the vertical tube down through the dash to where it meets the stock steel dash bar. This tube comes coped for the 1.5" stock dash tube on one end and then has a threaded bung welded in the other end. We supply a 3/8" stud and nylock that you could then either use a bolt in style bracket on the end of the center net, or you could slip a female rod end over the stud and then thread in an eye bolt into the female rod end which would give you a place to hook the d-ring style clasp found on most center nets. I like this vertical tube setup the best simply because it keeps the angle of the center net in the proper place for the taller drivers.
Option 2 - Is a horizontal tube that goes through the hole where the hazard light switch on a 99-05 is located and indexes on a stock bracket that attaches the dash skin to the stock dash tube. Our Horizontal Center Net Mounting Tube is laser coped to index onto the bracket and then onto the stock dash bar. This horizontal option comes with a 1.5" threaded bung and eye bolt to connect your center net. The weld in bung for the 1" tube was machined to fit into the recessed hole left once the stock hazard switch has been removed. This is an extremely nice and clean installation as long as it is not to low for you or your driver.
The best time to install either one of these tubes is when the dash is out of the car during the build process. In this situation it is very easy to weld the tubes from the back side of the dash. If the dash is in the car you can still weld either tube by going through the radio hole and/or front vent holes.
The Vertical Tube comes with the following: Laser coped tube, welded in threaded bung, 3/8" stud and Nylock nut.
The Horizontal Tube comes with the following: Laser coped tube, threaded bung and eye bolt.
